Fifteen common questions, then reserve: airport transfer quote requests taken 24/7

Fifteen answers follow about private car rides between addresses in New Castle County and Philadelphia International Airport, in both directions. Most of them turn on three things: the ZIP of your address, the written fare a local car company sends through the office, and the yes that only you can give. Airport transfer quote requests taken 24/7 start with the form on this site. Where an answer depends on the car company, it says so, because that company writes both the fare and the confirmation.

Which ZIP code decides the starting figure for my ride?

The ZIP of the county address where the car picks you up or drops you off. Ten ZIPs in the county carry Wilmington on the mail, and by road they sit between 15.9 and 30.6 miles from the terminals. A city name on an envelope says little about that distance, so each ZIP has its own from-figure for a sedan and for an SUV.

What if my ZIP code is missing from the list?

The office arranges rides for addresses in 22 ZIP codes, every one of them listed on the page of airport transfer service areas in New Castle County. Check the five digits on your mail against that page. Two ZIPs have an edge to know about: in 19701 the band along the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal around Parkside and Dragon Run lies beyond the area, as does a smaller canal-side band around Goose Point in 19702. Addresses in those two bands are left out; the rest of both ZIPs is covered.

Does the price rise with each extra person in the car?

It stays put. The fare covers the whole car, one way, for your group only. A sedan takes up to 3 people and an SUV up to 6, and the figure is the same whether one seat is filled or all of them. A ride out and the ride home are two separate fares, each sent to you in writing.

What can the written fare add beyond the from-figure?

The car company's fixed rate is the real price, and it can include items the from-figure leaves out: gratuity, with the fare saying whether it is already inside; extra stops; waiting past the time the fare names; an airport charge, if the company adds one; and a toll, if the route uses one. Each one that applies is written into the fare you read before you answer.

Who receives the money for the ride?

The car company that does the ride. You pay that company, as its written fare says, and the fare is the company's own. The office is paid by the company too: a set fee for each booking it passes on. So every dollar you spend on the ride goes to the car company.

Does a free quote commit me to anything?

A free quote asks nothing of you. The office checks available dates one request at a time, asking local car companies whether a car is open at your hour, and then sends one company's fare to you in writing. Nothing is owed until you say yes in writing, and nothing is reserved until the car company confirms in writing.

When will I hear back, and when can I send a request?

Requests go into the form on this site 24/7. A request sent while the phone is answered, at least two hours before it closes, gets a written answer within two hours. Any other request gets one by 1 p.m. Eastern on the next day the phone is answered (counting that very day, if the phone has yet to open), so a request sent after noon on Saturday, or on Sunday, is answered by 1 p.m. Monday. Ride dates start the day after the reply is due.

How early should the car come for a flight out?

Each ZIP page prints road minutes measured at a quiet hour, and those minutes are a floor. Rush hours on I-95 between Wilmington and the airport add time, so a ride in the morning or evening rush needs extra room. Write the pickup time you want on the request, along with your terminal, and the car company's written confirmation repeats that time back to you.

Where do I find the car after landing at PHL, and can someone meet me inside?

At Zone 6 on South Commercial Roadway, outside baggage claim, through the doors away from Arrivals Road. A-East, B/C, D/E and F each have their own Zone 6, and from international arrivals in A-West you take the elevator down and walk to A-East baggage claim. A meeting inside happens only when you ask and the car company confirms it in writing, with any parking or waiting charge in the written fare. The page for airport pickup at PHL for New Castle County has more.

If my flight lands late or early, who notices?

The car company does, from the flight number you put on the request. That number lets the company see the real landing time. How long the car waits after you land, and what waiting beyond that costs, are both stated in the written fare, which you read before your yes.

Will the car come with child seats?

Write on the request the count of seats and the kind of each: rear-facing, forward-facing or booster. Before you say yes, the car company tells you in writing whether it will bring them. The car company decides how it handles child seats, and its written answer says so before you agree. Seat count and seat kind are the only details the request takes about children.

Is a vehicle with a ramp or lift available?

The request has one optional box for a vehicle with a ramp or lift. The office passes it to the car company and tells you in writing, before you say yes, whether a vehicle that fits is free for your time. A service animal rides with you. The box is about the vehicle, and the request asks nothing more.

Can I change or cancel, before and after my yes?

Before your yes, you can withdraw the request at any moment, with no charge of any kind. After your yes, changes and cancelling follow the car company's own terms, which are printed in the written fare you read before agreeing. For anything after that point, those terms are the ones to go by.

Who may text me about a ride, and how do I stop it?

Under the phone field sits an optional box. Tick it, and the office and the car company that takes the ride may call or text that number about that ride only; replying STOP ends the texts. Leave it empty and replies come by email, with the driver calling only on the day of the ride. The office also keeps a do-not-call list and honors a request to stop calls within ten business days.

How do I speak to a specialist about my ride?

Call +1 (302) 656-7483 Monday to Friday from noon to 8 p.m., or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Eastern time. On Sunday the form is the way in. Written questions go to schedule@worldwidetraveltours.net and get answers on the schedule above, and the contact page explains how to speak to an airport transfer specialist in Wilmington, DE by phone.

Once you have your ZIP code and flight, the request form takes the rest, and a written fare comes back from a local car company.
